Your Guide to Fall Things to Do in West Bloomfield

By early September the township runs on two calendars at once. On one side of the map the parks along Cass Lake and Pine Lake are quietly finishing their outdoor season, the concerts thinning out and the trail traffic slowing. On the other side, Orchard Lake Road is doing the opposite — new rooms opening, old favorites relaunching, patios giving way to bar seats.

For a few weeks the two calendars overlap. If you live here, that overlap is the whole point.

The Last Wednesdays At Marshbank

Marshbank Park sits at 2805 Hiller Road on a sledding hill that doubles as a concert bowl once a week in summer. The Marshbank Music series returns Wednesdays 5–8:30 p.m. beginning August 5, 2026, running through August 26, which means the last three or four evenings of it fall inside what most residents already think of as back-to-school season. A blanket, a folding chair, and the mosquitoes are noticeably fewer than they were in July.

If you have not been in a while, the park has quietly grown into more than its concert nights. Set on 101.9 acres, the park offers walking, running, and hiking trails through a diverse natural landscape, and the loop trail itself is short and honest about it. The Marshbank Park Loop sits adjacent to Cass Lake, mixes pavement, mowed grass, dirt, gravel, and boardwalk, and runs through rolling fields with wildflowers, woodlots of mature trees, and marshland along the lake, with a boardwalk floating fishing pier and a canoe/kayak launch.

A worthwhile day to put on the calendar: Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 10 a.m. to noon, Bees, Butterflies & Blooms at Marshbank, with a beeswax craft, monarch tagging and release, swamp netting, live caterpillar displays, and native seed giveaways. It is free and no pre-registration is required. If you have kids who are already bored of the splash pad, this is the pivot.

What The West Bloomfield Trail Feels Like After Labor Day

The 7-mile rail-trail is a different animal in September than in July. Same route, different crowd. The 7.2-mile point-to-point trail near West Bloomfield takes about 2 hours 10 minutes to complete on average, is popular for hiking, mountain biking, and trail running, and the best months to visit are April through October, which is fair, but locals know the last four weeks of that window are the ones worth blocking off. Cooler mornings, fewer bugs, and, if we are being honest about the reviews, a walker on this trail regularly sees several snakes on a typical outing, something that noticeably tapers as temperatures drop.

A practical note that only regular users tend to know: a 12-space asphalt parking lot off Walnut Lake Road now gives access to the trail where it transitions from the Airline Trail to the West Bloomfield Trail, and there is now parking at the west end, center, and east end. That center access point solves the old problem of committing to a full out-and-back when you only have an hour.

For a shorter, quieter option, the West Bloomfield Woods Nature Preserve loop is an easy 2.2 miles, roughly a half hour to an hour, and the Swamp Pier Overlook inside the preserve is worth the small detour.

TreeRunner's Second Season

TreeRunner Adventure Park is the neighborhood answer to what to do with a restless twelve-year-old on a Saturday when the pool is closed. It sits at 6200 Drake Road on the campus of the Jewish Community Center at the northwest corner of Drake and West Maple, a short distance north of I-696 and west of M-5, and its fall programming is arguably better than its summer one because the trees do the decorating for you.

The 2026 fall festivities calendar, in the order you would actually plan around:

Event Dates What it is
Wizarding World Night Forest Sept 19–20, Sept 26–27, Oct 3–4 Three enchanting weekends of climbing under glowing lights with themed music and décor high in the trees
Boo Bounce Weekends Oct 10–12, 17–19, 24–26, Fridays and Saturdays 4–10 p.m., Sundays 2–8 p.m. Giant suspended nets for ages 4 and up with Halloween decorations, themed music, and candy to take home
HallowGlow Same October weekends A walk-through experience through decorated trails, $10 including gem mining, candy, and a spooky adventure, no reservations required

The overlap with Wizarding World and Boo Bounce is what makes early October the sweet spot. If the aerial course is a stretch for younger kids, HallowGlow gives them the same forest at night without the height.

The Orchard Lake Road Stretch, In Order

Now to the other calendar. If you drive Orchard Lake Road on any given Thursday, you can watch the corridor's dining scene turning over in real time. Four rooms are worth knowing about this fall, and it helps to think of them in geographic order.

6199 Orchard Lake Rd — Aurora Italiana. Announced by the aroma of fresh-baked pizza, with pillowy handmade gnocchi dressed in a rich tomato sauce and finished with fresh basil, an artful dining room, and a glass of Chianti that has diners planning their next reservation before finishing the meal. The West Bloomfield location shares a name with a Commerce Township sibling, and both operate under the same team.

6777 W. Maple Road — the Wednesday farmers market. Not a restaurant, but part of the same food geography. The West Bloomfield Farmers Market at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through October. Late September is when the Michigan apples and squash start crowding out the last of the tomatoes.

6919 Orchard Lake Rd — Game Day Social. The newest addition. The sports bar and restaurant is planning a new location at 6919 Orchard Lake Rd in the Boardwalk Shopping Center, and owner Brandon Bahoura said the new location is expected to open as soon as next month, per a July 2026 announcement. The concept is billed as a more polished take on the neighborhood sports bar, with a chef-driven kitchen, a curated bar program, and HD screens throughout the space, positioned as Game Day Social's flagship Oakland County pub. Timing here matters. A new sports bar opening the same month the Lions season starts is not accidental.

Bloomfield Village shopping center on Haggerty — Toasty Treats Cafe. The cafe for hot drinks and pastries is entering a new chapter in 2026 under new ownership. The cafe sits on the east side of Haggerty Road, in the Bloomfield Village shopping center next to Library Sports Pub & Grill, with Alchile Mexican Grill and Sinbad Fruit Market also in the plaza. A morning coffee stop that survived a closure and came back is the kind of thing that quietly matters to whoever lives within walking distance.

Two calendars, one township. The parks are winding down along Cass Lake. Orchard Lake Road is winding up.

A Working Autumn Saturday

Because a roundup is not a plan, here is one way the pieces above fit together on a single day in late September or early October, without doubling back across the township:

  1. 9:30 a.m. Coffee and something warm from the reopened Toasty Treats in Bloomfield Village.
  2. 10:30 a.m. Park at the Walnut Lake Road lot and take the West Bloomfield Trail east or west for an hour, whichever direction has more color that morning.
  3. 12:30 p.m. Lunch break at home, or a detour to the Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital market if it is a Wednesday.
  4. 3:00 p.m. Marshbank Park loop with the dog. Fishing pier if the kids need a reason to keep walking.
  5. 6:30 p.m. Dinner at Aurora Italiana on Orchard Lake, or hold that for a different night and head to TreeRunner for one of the Wizarding World or Boo Bounce weekends after dark.
  6. Late. Nightcap at Game Day Social if the Lions are on, or Library Sports Pub if the plaza is closer to home.

The point is not to do all of that on one day. The point is that you can, and that the geography of West Bloomfield in fall rewards the person who thinks of the parks and the road as one loop, not two.

A Note On Why This Matters Beyond A Weekend

Neighborhoods hold their value through the accumulation of small, ordinary reasons to stay. A market that runs into October. A concert series that a family plans around every August. A restaurant corridor that keeps turning over without losing the anchors. Those are the details that do not show up on a portal listing but that quietly shape why a homeowner ends up staying another five years, or referring the house next door to a cousin from out of state.

If your household is in the middle of a bigger question about what comes next — a right-sizing move, an inherited property to settle, a divorce timeline to work around — the same corridor knowledge that makes a good Saturday makes for a better transaction.
